Do spikes affect torque or installation? No. The spike is cosmetic; the seat under it is a standard 60 degree taper. Torque to your vehicle's spec with the included key or a deep socket that fits.

Chrome or black, which holds up better? Both use plated steel; black shows brake dust less, chrome shows shine more. Wash road salt off either finish to keep it looking new.
