Wheel Studs

Studs for our 4, 5 and 6 lug wheel adapters

• 12x1.5: the 12x1.5 adapter stud (2.2" overall, 0.55" knurl) fits our 4, 5 and 6 lug adapters that come with 12x1.5 studs, except part numbers 5450-5450M-BL and 5450-5450M-BK. The extended 12x1.5 adapter stud is 2.6" overall with the same 0.55" knurl.
• 1/2": the 1/2"-20 adapter stud (2.2", 0.55" knurl) fits our 4, 5 and 6 lug adapters that come with 1/2" studs, except 5450-5450FBK and 5450-5450F-BL. The extended 1/2" adapter stud is 2.6" overall.
• 7/16": the 7/16"-20 adapter stud (2.2", 0.55" knurl) fits our 4, 5 and 6 lug adapters built with 7/16" studs. The extended 7/16" adapter stud is 2.6" overall.
• 14x1.5: the 14x1.5 adapter stud (2.2", 0.6" knurl) is for adapters that use 14x1.5 studs; its listing does not name a lug count.
• 14x2: the 14x2 stud for 5 and 6 lug adapters (2.2", 0.6" knurl).
• 9/16"-18: the 9/16" stud for 5 and 6 lug adapters (2.2", 0.6" knurl).
• 12x1.25: the 12x1.25 adapter stud takes 12x1.25 lug nuts; its listing gives no lug count, length or knurl diameter, so measure the stud you are replacing before ordering.

Studs for our 8 lug wheel adapters

• 14x1.5: the 14x1.5 stud for 8 lug adapters (2.6" overall, 0.6" knurl) fits most of our 8 lug adapters that come with 14x1.5 studs. An extended 3.35" version is listed too.
• 14x2: the 14x2 stud for 8 lug adapters (2.6", 0.6" knurl) fits some of our 8 lug adapters with 14x2 studs, but not the 8170-8170B in 1.5" or 2" thickness.
• 9/16"-18: the 9/16" stud for 8 lug adapters (2.6", 0.6" knurl) fits some of our 8 lug adapters with 9/16" studs, but not the 8650-8650D in 1.5" or 2" thickness.

Studs and connecting bolts for 2-piece conversion adapters

Our 2-piece conversion adapters use their own 1.85" studs: 12x1.25, 12x1.5, 7/16" and 1/2" with a 0.55" knurl, and 14x1.5 with a 0.6" knurl. The two pieces are held together by black 1/2"-13 connecting bolts with an Allen head, which its listing says work on our 2-piece adapters, including 5 to 6, 6 to 5, 6 to 8, 8 to 6, 7 to 6, 7 to 8 and 5 to 8 lug. Torque them to the value on our torque reference, as our 2-piece install guide explains.

ATV and specialty adapter studs

• The 10x1.25 and 3/8"-24 adapter studs (1.8" overall, 0.5" knurl) fit some of our 4 lug ATV wheel adapters.
• The 16x1.5 adapter stud is made for our 5x6.5 to 5x6.5 wheel adapters.

Replacement wheel studs for hubs

• 12x1.25: right-hand studs 1.5" and 1.75" overall, and a 12x1.25 spline stud, 40mm overall with a 14.25mm knurl, listed for Nissan hubs and sold each: compare it with the stud you are replacing.
• 12x1.5: right-hand studs 1.5", 1.75" and 2.25" overall.
• 14x1.5: a 1.75" right-hand stud.
• 1/2": right-hand studs 1.5" and 1.75" overall.
• Double-ended: screw-in studs with 14x1.5 on one end and 12x1.5 on the other, 1.5" or 1.75" overall. The end that matches the tapped hole screws in, and the other end takes the lug nut.

How to choose a wheel stud

• Thread: the diameter and pitch must match your lug nuts exactly. 14x1.5 and 14x2 look nearly the same, as do 12x1.5 and 12x1.25, and metric and inch threads do not interchange.
• Knurl diameter: a press-in stud is held by its knurl, so the knurl must match the hole: 0.5", 0.55" or 0.6" on our adapter studs.
• Overall length: match the stud you are replacing. Go longer only when the extra length clears the back of the wheel and does not bottom out in closed-end lug nuts.
• Install: press a knurled stud in straight until its head sits flush against the back of the plate or flange, with a press rather than hammer blows where you can. A double-ended stud screws in instead.
• Direction: the replacement hub studs here are right-hand thread. A left-hand stud needs left hand thread lug nuts.
• Torque: torque the lug nuts to the values on our torque reference and check them again after the first 50 to 100 miles.

Common questions

What is the difference between a wheel stud and a wheel adapter stud? A wheel stud sits in the vehicle's hub flange; a wheel adapter stud is pressed into the adapter and carries the wheel. Both are listed here by thread and overall length, and most adapter studs also give a knurl diameter, so you can match the one you remove.

Do 2-piece adapter studs fit a one-piece adapter? No. The 1.85" studs for our 2-piece adapters and the studs for our one-piece adapters are not interchangeable, so order the stud listed for your adapter type.

How do I measure a wheel stud? Measure the overall length end to end, check the thread with a pitch gauge or a nut you know, and measure across the knurl with calipers.

Can I replace just one stud? Yes. A single damaged stud can be replaced on its own; look over the others while the wheel is off.
