BMW Wheel Spacers
BMW Wheel Spacers for the 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X3, X5 and 1 Series
BMW wheel spacers for 5x120 and 4x100 hubs: hub centric slip-ons and bolt-on pairs matched by hub bore, thread and, where a listing sets one, a factory hub height cap of 9mm, 12mm or 20mm. On a lug-bolt BMW, a bolt-on pair needs hub-side lug bolts in your car's thread and the pair's required seat, bought separately; a slip-on needs longer bolts.

BMW spacer fitment guide & common questions
3 Series 1992–2011 (not the 1992–1993 E30 convertible), 1 Series 2008–2013, 5 Series 1975–1996 and 2004–2010 (not the Gran Turismo), 6 Series 1977–1989 and 2004–2010, 7 Series 1978–2001 and 8 Series 1991–1997 wheel spacers: 5x120, 12x1.5 thread, 72.6mm hub
These BMWs use 5x120 with 12x1.5 lug bolts and a 72.6mm hub: the 3 Series 1992–2011 (not the 1992–1993 E30 convertible, which is 4x100), 1 Series 2008–2013, 5 Series 1975–1996 and 2004–2010 (not the 5 Series Gran Turismo, below), 6 Series 1977–1989 and 2004–2010, 7 Series 1978–2001 and 8 Series 1991–1997. Three kinds of spacer fit them:
- Bolt-on: the 5x120 hub centric BMW pair (72.6mm bore, 12x1.5 studs, 1"), whose listing is for BMW factory wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and a factory hub no taller than 20mm. Bolt-on spacers do not include lug bolts: the pair mounts to the hub with hub-side lug bolts in the vehicle's required thread and the pair's required seat, bought separately. Those hub-side bolts must reach full thread engagement in the hub, with their heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face so the wheel seats flush. The wheel then mounts on the pair's studs with lug nuts that match both its stud thread and your wheels' seat.
- Slip-on: the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs (their listings exclude the 1996–2003 5 Series and do not name the 1 Series) in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models. Use longer lug bolts in your vehicle's thread and your wheel's seat, long enough for the thread engagement required by the vehicle, wheel and fastener manufacturers at the spacer thickness you choose, and check that they do not contact brake or other components; the listings' extended lug bolt options are sized for original wheels only.
- Slip-on for 74.1mm-bore wheels: the 10mm 72.6/74.1 pair fits over the 72.6mm hub and centers a wheel with a 74.1mm center bore. Its listing names only these BMWs, so check yours against it: 318, 325, 328 and 330 (1992 on), M3 (1994 on), 5, 6 and 7 Series (1975–1988), 5 and 7 Series (1989–1996), 740 and 750 (1995–2002), 745i (2003 on), 8 Series (1992 on), Z3, Z4 and Z8, and X3 (2004 on). It does not name the 1 Series.
5 Series 2011–2016, 5 Series Gran Turismo 2010–2017, 6 Series 2012–2019 (not the 6 Series Gran Turismo), 7 Series 2002–2015, 4 Series 2014–2020 (not matched to a pair here), X3 2004–2010 and X5 2000–2006 (E53) wheel spacers: 5x120, 72.6mm hub
These BMWs keep the 5x120 pattern and 72.6mm hub but use 14x1.25 lug bolts: the 5 Series 2011–2016, 5 Series Gran Turismo 2010–2017, 6 Series 2012–2019 (not the 6 Series Gran Turismo), 7 Series 2009–2015 and 4 Series 2014–2020. The 7 Series 2002–2008, X3 2004–2010 and X5 2000–2006 (E53) keep the same pattern and hub with 14x1.5 lug bolts. The 12x1.5 bolt-on pair above does not match their thread. Except the 4 Series, which their listings do not name, they take the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models. Of these cars, the 10mm 72.6/74.1 pair's listing names only the X3 (2004 on) and, among the 7 Series, the 740 and 750 (1995–2002) and the 745i (2003 on), for wheels with a 74.1mm center bore; it does not name the 5 Series 2011–2016, 5 Series Gran Turismo, 6 Series 2012–2019, 7 Series 2009–2015, 4 Series or X5. No slip-on listing on this page names the 4 Series 2014–2020, and no bolt-on pair here has studs in its 14x1.25 thread. A slip-on takes its own thickness out of the thread engagement, so use longer lug bolts in your vehicle's thread and your wheel's seat, long enough for the thread engagement required by the vehicle, wheel and fastener manufacturers at the spacer thickness you choose, and check that they do not contact brake or other components.
5 Series 1997–2003 wheel spacers: 5x120, 12x1.5 thread, 74.1mm hub
The 5 Series 1997–2003 uses 5x120 with 12x1.5 lug bolts and a larger 74.1mm hub. Fit the 74.1mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm, 15mm or 20mm, for a factory hub no taller than 9mm, rear axle only on certain models and front axle only on others, or the 12mm 74.1/72.56 pair, which centers a wheel with a 72.56mm center bore on this hub and is front axle only on certain models. On a slip-on, use longer lug bolts in your vehicle's thread and your wheel's seat, long enough for the thread engagement required by the vehicle, wheel and fastener manufacturers at the spacer thickness you choose, and check that they do not contact brake or other components. The 72.6mm bolt-on pair and the 72.5mm slip-ons are too small for this hub.
3 Series 1977–1983 and 2002 1970–1976 wheel spacers: 4x100, 57.1mm hub
The 3 Series 1977–1983 uses 4x100 with 12x1.5 lug bolts and a 57.1mm hub. The 2002 1970–1976 has the same pattern and 57.1mm hub, but its thread and fastener are not confirmed by an outside source. The 57.1mm hub centric 4x100 slip-ons in 5mm and 8mm fit both; of these cars, the listing for the 15mm and 20mm pair, with a 57.1mm centering lip your wheel's center bore must accept, names both US applications (the 320 1977–1983 and the 2002 1970–1976), and the 16mm and 20mm 4x100/5x100 pairs are listed for the 3 Series only. For the US 320 1977–1983, the 4x100 bolt-on pair (64mm center bore, 12x1.5 studs, 1" to 2") also fits. For a slip-on on a car with lug bolts, use longer lug bolts in your vehicle's thread and your wheel's seat, long enough for the thread engagement required by the vehicle, wheel and fastener manufacturers at the spacer thickness you choose, and check that they do not contact brake or other components. On a car with studs, never shorten the studs on a slip-on; keep the thread engagement required by the vehicle, wheel and fastener manufacturers, fit suitable longer studs if they fall short, and check that closed-end lug nuts do not bottom out. Other makes on the pattern: 4 lug wheel spacers.
The 5mm flat and 10mm BMW slip-on pairs do not state their bore and say they will not fit certain BMW models, so this page does not match them to a car; measure your hub and check the model list in each listing before ordering one.
How to choose a BMW spacer: slip-on or bolt-on, thread, hub bore, hub height and thickness
Slip-on spacers slide over existing wheel studs like a thick washer, ideal for thin adjustments. Bolt-on spacers bolt directly to factory studs using separate hardware and feature their own integrated studs to mount the wheel, ideal for wider setups. Hub centric is an attribute of both types: the slip-ons with a stated bore and the 5x120 hub centric pair are bored to the BMW hub, so the hub, not the bolts, centers them; the 4x100 bolt-on pair's 64mm center bore only clears the 57.1mm hub.
- Thread: 12x1.5 on the 3 Series 1992–2011 (not the 1992–1993 E30 convertible), 1 Series 2008–2013, 5 Series 1975–1996, 1997–2003 and 2004–2010, 6 Series 1977–1989 and 2004–2010, 7 Series 1978–2001, 8 Series 1991–1997 and 3 Series 1977–1983; 14x1.25 on the 5 Series 2011–2016, 5 Series Gran Turismo 2010–2017, 6 Series 2012–2019 (not the 6 Series Gran Turismo), 7 Series 2009–2015 and 4 Series 2014–2020; 14x1.5 on the 7 Series 2002–2008, X3 2004–2010 and X5 2000–2006 (E53). A bolt-on pair's studs must carry your vehicle's thread. On a hub with wheel studs, lug nuts in your vehicle's stud thread and the pair's required seat clamp the pair to the hub (your own nuts only if they meet both); on a hub with lug bolts, the hub-side bolts are bought separately in your car's thread and the pair's required seat, because bolt-on spacers do not include lug bolts. The wheel then mounts on the pair's studs with lug nuts that match both the pair's stud thread and your wheels' seat (check whether the listing includes nuts).
- Hub bore: 72.6mm on the BMWs in the first two sections, 74.1mm on the 5 Series 1997–2003, 57.1mm on the 4x100 cars. The two ring pairs also set the wheel's bore: 74.1mm on the 72.6/74.1 pair, 72.56mm on the 74.1/72.56 pair.
- Hub height: measure it with the diagram on the listing before ordering. If your BMW is not named above, measure the hub, or measure your bolt pattern if you are unsure of it.
- Thickness available: slip-on 5mm to 20mm; bolt-on 1" (5x120 hub centric pair, for BMW factory wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and a factory hub no taller than 20mm) and 1" to 2" (4x100 pair), each mounted on a lug-bolt BMW with hub-side lug bolts in your car's thread and the pair's required seat, bought separately. Start with the thinnest that clears. The wheel must seat flush on any pair: on a lug-bolt hub the hub-side bolt heads must sit fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face; on a studded hub, factory studs that stand proud of a thin bolt-on pair's face and stop the wheel seating flush need shortening; never shorten the studs on a slip-on.
- Torque: torque to BMW's specification for your model and check the bolts again after the first 50 to 100 miles.
Common questions
Which spacers fit a BMW 3 Series? 3 Series 1992–2011 (not the 1992–1993 E30 convertible, which is 4x100): the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models, with 12x1.5 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer, or the 5x120 hub centric BMW bolt-on pair with 12x1.5 studs, for BMW factory wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and a factory hub no taller than 20mm, with hub-side lug bolts in 12x1.5 and the pair's required seat, bought separately, long enough for full thread engagement in the hub and with heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face. 3 Series 1977–1983: the 57.1mm 4x100 slip-ons in 5mm and 8mm or the 16mm and 20mm dual-pattern pairs, with 12x1.5 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer; for the US 320 1977–1983, also the 15mm and 20mm pair with a 57.1mm centering lip your wheel's center bore must accept, or the 4x100 bolt-on pair, with hub-side lug bolts in 12x1.5 and the pair's required seat, bought separately, long enough for full thread engagement in the hub and with heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face.
Which spacers fit a BMW 5 Series? 5 Series 1975–1995 and 2004–2010 (not the Gran Turismo): the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models, with 12x1.5 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer, or the 72.6mm-bore 5x120 hub centric bolt-on pair with 12x1.5 studs, for BMW factory wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and a factory hub no taller than 20mm, with hub-side lug bolts in 12x1.5 and the pair's required seat, bought separately, long enough for full thread engagement in the hub and with heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face. 5 Series 1996: the 72.6mm-bore 5x120 hub centric bolt-on pair with 12x1.5 studs, for BMW factory wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and a factory hub no taller than 20mm, with hub-side lug bolts in 12x1.5 and the pair's required seat, bought separately, long enough for full thread engagement in the hub and with heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face; the 72.5mm slip-on listings exclude the 1996 car. 5 Series 1997–2003: the 74.1mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm, 15mm or 20mm, for a factory hub no taller than 9mm, rear axle only on certain models and front axle only on others, or the 12mm 74.1/72.56 pair, only for wheels with a 72.56mm center bore and front axle only on certain models, each with 12x1.5 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer. 5 Series 2011–2016: the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models, with 14x1.25 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer.
Which spacers fit a BMW X5 or X3? X5 2000–2006 (E53) and X3 2004–2010: the 72.5mm-bore hub centric slip-on pairs in 10mm and 15mm, for a factory hub no taller than 12mm, and in 20mm, each rear axle only on certain models, with 14x1.5 lug bolts in your wheels' seat, long enough for the spacer.
Do I need longer lug bolts with a slip-on spacer? On a BMW with lug bolts, yes: a slip-on takes its own thickness out of the thread engagement in the hub, so use longer lug bolts in your car's thread and your wheels' seat, long enough for full thread engagement at the spacer thickness, and check that they do not contact brake or other components. The 2002 1970–1976 fastener is not confirmed by an outside source, so check yours before ordering.
Do bolt-on BMW spacers come with lug bolts? No. Bolt-on spacers never include lug bolts. On a BMW with lug bolts, the pair fastens to the hub with bolts you buy separately in your car's thread and the pair's required seat, long enough for full thread engagement in the hub and with their heads fully recessed below the pair's wheel-side face so the wheel seats flush; the wheel then mounts on the pair's studs with lug nuts that match both the pair's stud thread and your wheels' seat (check whether the listing includes nuts).
