Seat the key squarely on the lug nut so all eight points engage before you apply force; a partial bite can round the pattern on both parts. Use steady hand tools rather than an impact gun, tighten to the spec in our torque reference chart, and re-torque the nuts after 50 to 100 miles.

How do I know my lug nuts take an 8-point key?
Look straight down at the opening in the nut head and count the points. Eight points means this key fits; a 6-point (hex) opening takes a different key, and the two are not interchangeable.
