Metal valve stems go in with the tire deflated and the bead broken away from the rim, so the easiest time to swap them is during a tire mount or rotation. Confirm your wheel uses the standard 0.453" valve hole, then check the finished install for leaks with a little soapy water once the tire is aired back up.
