The base installs from inside the rim, pulled through the 0.625" hole with a stem tool until it snaps into its groove. That makes tire mounting the natural time to fit new stems, and any tire shop can do it in minutes. Finish with a soapy water check at the base and a cap on the valve to keep dirt off the core.
Common questions
Can I replace a snap-in stem without dismounting the tire?
Not entirely. The stem seats from the inside, so the bead has to be broken away from the rim to reach the hole. Most drivers simply have stems replaced whenever new tires are installed.
