Wheel Adapters for Volkswagen Golf

Quick answer: most Volkswagen Golfs use one of three bolt patterns. Mk1 through Mk3 Golfs (roughly 1975-1998) run 4x100, the Mk4 (1999-2006 US models) runs 5x100, and every Golf from the Mk5 forward (mid-2006 and newer, sold as the Rabbit 2006.5-2009, including GTI and Golf R) runs 5x112. Note that 2006 is a split year in the US: a car badged as a 2006 Golf is the Mk4 at 5x100, while the mid-2006 Rabbit and GTI are Mk5 at 5x112, so check your hub before ordering. The adapters in this collection bolt to a 4x100, 5x100, or 5x112 Golf hub and let you mount wheels in a different pattern. Always verify your own year and trim before ordering.

  • 1985-1992 Golf Mk2: 4x100 (these adapters fit)
  • 1993-1998 Golf Mk3: 4x100 on base models; VR6 and some GTI trims use 5x100 (these adapters fit, choose by your trim's pattern)
  • 1999-2006 Golf Mk4: 5x100 (these adapters fit)
  • 2006.5-2009 Golf Mk5 (sold as Rabbit in the US; GTI kept its name): 5x112 (these adapters fit)
  • 2010-2014 Golf Mk6: 5x112 (these adapters fit)
  • 2015-2021 Golf Mk7: 5x112 (these adapters fit)
  • 2022 and newer Golf Mk8 (GTI, Golf R): 5x112 (these adapters fit)

Note on 2006: it was a split model year in the US. A car sold as a 2006 Volkswagen Golf is still the Mk4 at 5x100. The Mk5 arrived mid-year as the 2006.5 Rabbit and GTI at 5x112. If you have a 2006, verify your bolt pattern on the car before ordering.

From a 5x100 hub: 5x100, 5x108 (5x4.25), 5x112, 5x114.3, 5x120, 5x120.65, 5x127, 5x130, 5x139.7 (5x5.5), and 6x139.7 (6x5.5). From a 5x112 hub: 5x100, 5x112, 5x114.3, 5x120, 5x120.65, and 5x130.

What bolt pattern does my Golf have? As a rule of thumb, count your lugs first: 4 lugs means 4x100 (Mk1-Mk3), 5 lugs on a 1999-2006 Golf means 5x100, and 5 lugs on a mid-2006 or newer Mk5-Mk8 car (Rabbit, GTI, Golf, Golf R) means 5x112. Mk3 VR6 and some GTI trims are the exception at 5x100, and 2006 is a split year, so verify before ordering.

Can I run newer VW 5x112 wheels on my Mk4 Golf? Yes. A 5x100 to 5x112 adapter bolts to the Mk4 hub and gives you 5x112 studs, so wheels from Mk5 and newer VWs will mount. Check that the adapter thickness clears your suspension and fenders.

Will adapters let me swap between 5x100 and 5x112? Both directions are covered here: 5x100 to 5x112 for older cars taking newer wheels, and 5x112 to 5x100 for Mk5 and newer cars taking 5x100 wheels. Torque to spec and re-check after the first 50 to 100 miles.
