Start every nut by hand to protect the threads, then bring the wheel down in a crossing pattern and torque to your vehicle's factory specification with help from the torque reference chart. Re-torque after the first 50 to 100 miles so the black finish and the seat settle in evenly. Wiping the threads clean before install helps the nuts seat true.

Are these interchangeable with any acorn nut on my shelf?
Only if both the thread and the seat match. These are 12x1.75 conical acorn nuts, so they will not work in a wheel built for ball or mag seats.
Does the black coating change how they fit?
